The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation was created in 1902 because of mounting pressure for the federal government to develop water resources. The collection contains Bureau of Reclamation project histories for Boise, Columbia Basin, Owyhee, and Yakima. Boise project materials cover the years 1923-1925; 1940; 1944; 1948; and 1951-1955. Columbia Basin project materials, 1947. Owyhee project materials cover the years 1935-1941; 1949-1950; and 1952-1956. Yakima project materials, 1935-1937.

The Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation Service) was a bureau of the Department of the Interior which oversaw water development projects in the western United States.
